How is usage calculated?

Discover how your flexible character quota adapts to your specific needs every month, with no feature caps or per-seat restrictions.

Learn how usage is calculated

At Lara Translate, we use Characters as a universal unit of measurement. Instead of managing separate limits for different features, everything you do draws from a single, flexible pool.

This system ensures that your plan adapts to your specific needs every month. Whether you are translating a quick chat message or a complex technical manual, every action is converted into a character count.

Conversion Table

To keep things simple, we convert every action into a character count based on the following rates:

Service Type Conversion Rate
Text 1 character per character translated.
Documents 1 character per character (Min. 20,000 per file).
Images 10,000 characters per image.
Audio 40 characters per second of audio.
Voice Interpreter 400 characters per second of live conversation.

How it works in practice

1. Text

Usage is calculated per individual character. There is no minimum charge per request.

  • Example: Translating a single word like "Hello" (5 characters) will deduct exactly 5 characters from your pool.

2. Documents (20,000 character floor)

We count the actual characters inside your file, but every upload has a minimum charge to cover the complex layout processing.

  • Example A: A short document with 12,000 characters will deduct 20,000 characters.

  • Example B: A large document with 35,000 characters will deduct exactly 35,000 characters.

3. Images (Fixed rate)

To keep things simple, we don't count letters in images. Every image (screenshot, photo, or infographic) has a flat cost.

  • Example: Translating 2 images costs 20,000 characters (2 X 10,000).

4. Audio and Voice (Per second)

Usage is calculated down to the second. You only pay for the actual duration of the audio or conversation.

  • Audio: A quick 15-second voice note costs 600 characters (15s X 40).

  • Voice Interpreter: A 30-second live exchange costs 12,000 characters (30s X 400).

For Team Plans: Unlimited Users

On Team plans, the unified pool is shared across your entire organization.

  • You can invite unlimited colleagues at no extra cost.

  • Every member draws from the same pool for Text, Documents, Images, Audio, and Voice Interpreter.

  • This allows your team to collaborate freely without the friction of "per-seat" pricing.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do spaces count as characters? Yes. Following industry standards for AI and translation, spaces and punctuation are included in the character count for Text and Document services.

What happens if I run out of characters? You won't be blocked. If you exceed your monthly pool, additional usage is billed at your plan's "Extra Character" rate (e.g., €0.20 per 10,000 characters), ensuring your workflow is never interrupted. This extra usage is billed monthly at your renewal date or, for annual plans, on your monthly character reset day.

Where can I track my usage? You can see a real-time breakdown of your consumption in your Usage section of your acount, categorized by service type.
