# Lara Translate on iOS

**Lara Translate** is an AI-powered translation app developed by **Translated,** designed to help you communicate effortlessly across languages while using your iPhone.

#### **Home screen and translation modes**

- **Plain Text** – translate short or long text instantly
- **Documents** – upload and translate documents
- **Interpreter** – speak and get real-time interpretation

You can also:

- Paste text using the **Paste** button
- Swap source and target languages
- Let Lara automatically detect the source language

#### **Text translation**

1. Enter or paste the text you want to translate
2. Lara instantly generates the translation
3. From the result screen, you can:
   
     - 🔊 Listen to the translation
     - 📋 Copy the translated text
     - 🔗 Share it externally
     - 🔀 View alternative translations by tapping **ALT**

Translations are designed to be accurate, fluent, and context-aware.

 

##### Alternative translations

When viewing a translation result, you can explore alternative renderings for specific words or phrases by tapping the **ALT** button below the translated text.

Tapping ALT highlights a word in the translation. A panel opens at the bottom of the screen showing alternative translation options, each with a short explanation of the context or register in which it would be used.

This feature is useful when you want to compare phrasing options or choose a more appropriate word for your specific context.

 

##### Right-to-left language support

Lara automatically displays translated text in the correct reading direction. When translating into right-to-left languages such as Arabic, Hebrew, or Persian, the translation output is aligned and rendered right-to-left without any additional setup.

 

#### **Document translation**

To translate a document:

1. Select **Documents** from the home screen
2. Choose a supported file (PDF, Word, PowerPoint, Excel, or image files) and the target language
3. Start the translation
4. Once completed, you can download or share the translated document

**Translating images on iOS**

Image files from your gallery are not directly visible in the document picker. To translate an image:

1. Open the image in your **Photos** app
2. Tap **Share → Save to Files**
3. Go back to Lara, select **Documents**, and the saved image will now appear in the file picker

#### **Translation Styles**

To access the feature, click the three-dots menu **(⋮)** above the source text. You can customize how translations are generated by selecting a **Style:**

- **Faithful** – closer to the original text and structure
- **Fluid** – more natural and idiomatic
- **Creative** – more expressive and adaptive

To change style:

1. Tap **Styles** above the source text
2. Select your preferred option
3. The translation updates automatically

Adding context helps Lara resolve ambiguities and improve accuracy.  
To access the feature, click the three-dots menu **(...)** above the source text.

1. Tap **Add context**
2. Enter additional information (e.g. tone, audience, domain)
3. Confirm to apply it to the translation

Context is especially useful for professional, technical, or nuanced content.

#### **Interpreter mode (voice translation)**

1. Select **Interpreter** from the home screen
2. Choose the two languages
3. Press and hold the microphone button
4. Start speaking — Lara interprets for you

This mode is ideal for:

- Live conversations
- Meetings
- Travel situations

#### **Account and team management**

- View your profile and team
- Manage team access
- Log out
- Access usage details and privacy settings

If you are part of a team, usage is shared according to your plan.

**Please note:** Users subscribed through the Apple App Store (In-App Purchase) cannot be added to a **Team plan** as team members. To access a Team plan, cancel your App Store subscription and subscribe directly at [laratranslate.com](https://laratranslate.com/pricing).

#### **Usage and quotas**

- **Plain text** – character-based usage
- **Documents** – pages and characters
- **Interpreter** – voice usage

You can also see:

- Remaining quota
- Reset date for your plan

#### **Learning Mode and Incognito Mode**

###### Learning Mode

- Translation data is encrypted and securely stored
- Helps improve translation quality over time

###### Incognito Mode

- Translations are **never stored**
- Not shown in translation history
- Sharing links disabled
- Maximum privacy, with static quality

You can switch modes at any time from **My Account**.

#### **Pay-on-demand features (API, Google Sheets, etc.) and payment methods (iOS)**

If you’re using Lara Translate on iOS with an Apple In-App Purchase subscription, pay-on-demand features such as the API or Google Sheets integration require an additional setup.

Your subscription fee will continue to be billed through Apple. However, pay-on-demand usage is charged separately and requires you to add a payment method directly in your Lara account.

To enable API usage:

1. Go to **My Account → API → Credentials**
2. Add a **payment method**
3. Fill in your **Billing Information**
4. Once this is done, pay-on-demand consumables will be available and billed on the payment method you added.

If no payment method is added and billing information is not completed, API usage is limited to **10,000 characters per month**.
