Lara for memoQ

A complete guide to Lara’s memoQ plugin

You can now use Lara directly inside memoQ through our official integration.
This allows you to combine memoQ’s translation environment with Lara’s adaptive machine translation - all in one place.

Context Adaptation

The Lara plugin for memoQ lets you work segment by segment while Lara processes the full source context before generating a translation. This ensures each translated segment is informed by the document’s meaning and style, improving consistency and fluency.

Install the Lara plugin

  1. Request the Lara Translate for memoQ plugin from this page.
  2. Run the installer and open memoQ. Because the plugin is not yet signed, memoQ will display an unsigned plugin warning — during installation and every time memoQ is opened. The message is the following:

    Click Yes to proceed.

Is it safe? Yes. The warning does not indicate a security risk.
It simply means that the plugin has not yet been cryptographically signed by memoQ. At this stage:

  • The plugin is developed and maintained by Translated
  • It does not access or modify memoQ system files
  • It only communicates with Lara Translate through secure, encrypted API calls
  • No customer data is stored locally by the plugin

The warning is a standard memoQ behavior for plugins that are distributed outside of the memoQ Marketplace.

Why is the plugin not signed yet? At the moment, memoQ only signs plugins once they are published through their official plugin store.
We’re already working closely with the memoQ team to follow this process.
The signed version of the Lara plugin, distributed directly via the memoQ Marketplace and without any warning messages, is planned for release by Q2 2026.
When this version becomes available, no action or functional changes will be required on your side, you’ll simply be able to install the signed plugin as usual.


What happens next? You can safely use the plugin today
The warning will automatically disappear once the official memoQ-signed version is released
We will notify you as soon as the Marketplace version is available

Set up Lara in your memoQ environment

memoQ does not automatically create a Lara profile.
The first time you use the plugin, you must create your own MT profile.

     

    1. Go to Options → Default Resources → MT Plugins.
    2. Click Create new.
    3. Enter a name such as Lara Translate or Lara MT.


    4. Select your new profile and click Edit.
    5. From the plugin list, choose Lara Translate.
    6. Click Configure plugin and log in with your Lara credentials.


     

    Once connected, your profile will use Lara as its machine translation engine.

     

    Enable Lara as your default MT provider

    1. Go to Options → Default Resources → MT Settings.

    2. Select your Lara Translate MT profile.

    3. Click OK.

    memoQ will now use Lara by default when creating new projects.

     

    Enable Self-Learning MT in memoQ

    To allow Lara to receive your segment edits in real time:

    1. Go to Options → Default Resources → MT Plugins.

    2. Select your Lara Translate profile and click Edit.

    3. Open the Settings tab.

    4. Under Self-Learning Machine Translation, choose Lara Translate from the dropdown.



    5. Save and close.

    This links memoQ’s confirmations to your Lara Translation Memories.

     

    Translate with Lara in memoQ

    1. Create a new memoQ project.

    2. Go to Project Home → Settings → MT Settings.

    3. Make sure Lara Translate is selected.

    4. Open a document and begin translating.

    Lara will appear in the Translation Results pane with adaptive MT suggestions.

     

    Connect and manage Translation Memories (TMs)

    You can personalize Lara’s translations by connecting Translation Memories during plugin setup. Each TM can be:

    • Use → used as leverage in the translations

    • Use & Update → used and updated in real time


    Real-time TM updates

    When Update is enabled every confirmed segment in memoQ is immediately sent to Lara  and updates the connected TM instantly.

    You can verify this in your Lara dashboard:

    1. Go to Text Translation in your Lara account.
    2. Select the TM used in memoQ.
    3. Choose the same language pair.

    Translate the same segment - you’ll see your updates applied instantly.

     

    Usage

    Lara’s memoQ plugin includes a usage-caching feature: any translation retrieved within the last 24 hours will not be charged again, even if you reopen the project or re-translate the same text.

    This lets you freely review, edit, or re-run translations without incurring additional quota usage.

    Coming soon: A monthly character usage report for memoQ will be available directly in your Lara dashboard.
