Lara for Trados Studio
A complete guide to Lara’s Trados plugin
You can now use Lara directly inside Trados Studio through our official plugin, available on the RWS AppStore.
This integration lets you combine Trados’ project management features with Lara’s adaptive translation engine — all in one place.
Context Adaptation
The Lara plugin for Trados enables users to work with segment-based workflows while Lara reasons over the source text before translating. This ensures each segment is generated with context understanding.
Install the Lara plugin
-
Go to the RWS AppStore.
-
Download the plugin and double-click the file to install it.
-
In Trados Studio, go to Add-Ins → Plug-Ins and activate Trados-Lara-Plugin-2024.
Set up Lara in your Trados project
-
Open your Project Settings in Trados.
-
Go to Translation Resources → Translation Memory and Automated Translation.
-
From the Use… dropdown menu, select Lara Translation Provider.
-
Log in with your Lara credentials when prompted.
Once connected, Lara will automatically appear as your machine translation provider in the project.
Note: Remember to enable the Update option in your Project Settings.
Connect and manage Translation Memories (TMs)
You can customize Lara’s translations by connecting Translation Memories:
-
Create a new TM directly from the plugin,
-
Import a TMX file, or
-
Import from MyMemory.
All connected TMs will appear in a list — you can select, update, or combine them as needed. For in-depth configuration instructions, please refer to this documentation.
Real-time TM updates
When you enable the Update option in your project settings, Lara will learn from your edits in real time.
This means that every confirmed segment in Trados updates your connected Translation Memory instantly.
You can verify this by going to your Lara account → Text Translation section:
-
Select the same Translation Memory used in Trados.
-
Choose the same language pair.
-
Translate the same segment to see your updated TM in action — the change will be reflected immediately.
💡 Tip: This real-time learning helps Lara continuously improve translation consistency and accuracy across your projects.
Usage
Lara’s Trados plugin includes a cache feature that prevents recalculating the same translation usage for 24 hours. This means you can reopen and continue working or editing within the same project for up to 24 hours without any further quota consumption.
Coming soon: A monthly character consumption report for Trados projects will soon be available directly in your Lara dashboard.
You’re all set
Once configured, you can translate directly in Trados with Lara’s adaptive suggestions and benefit from seamless, continuous learning — without ever leaving your CAT tool.
