ModernMT is evolving: how to migrate your Trados or memoQ plugin to Lara Translate

If you're currently using ModernMT through a Trados Studio or memoQ plugin, this guide explains how to transition to Lara Translate — the next evolution of ModernMT, with faster, context-aware adaptive translation.

The migration process is simple and assisted by our team. Here's what you need to know.

Why is ModernMT moving to Lara Translate?

ModernMT's technology has evolved into Lara Translate — a more powerful platform with context-aware translation, advanced translation styles, real-time Translation Memory learning, and seamless CAT tool integrations.

All ModernMT users are being guided to Lara Translate to ensure you have access to the best translation technology available. Your existing workflows, Translation Memories, and glossaries can all be carried over.

What happens to my ModernMT plugin?

The ModernMT plugins for Trados and memoQ will be retired as part of this transition. Lara Translate offers its own dedicated plugins for both tools:

• Lara for Trados Studio — available on the RWS AppStore
• Lara for memoQ — available upon request from this page

How do I migrate?

To make the transition as smooth as possible, we handle plugin migrations on a case-by-case basis with dedicated support. Here's what to do:

1. Contact our support team by writing to support@laratranslate.com. Please mention that you're a ModernMT plugin user and specify which CAT tool you're using (Trados, memoQ, or both).
   
   
2. Our team will guide you through the process, including:
   • Setting up your Lara Translate account
   • Migrating your Translation Memories 
   • Installing and configuring the Lara plugin in your CAT tool
   • Answering any questions about differences in features or pricing
3. Once the Lara plugin is installed and configured, you can start translating right away — your workflow stays the same.
   
   

What about my Translation Memories?

Your translation assets will be carried over to Lara. The process depends on where your memories are stored:

• If your Translation Memories are on MyMemory — the transfer is nearly instant.
  
  
• If your Translation Memories are stored elsewhere — our team will complete the migration within a few business days.
  
  

Will my workflow change?

Your day-to-day workflow will remain very similar. Both the Trados and memoQ plugins for Lara support:

• Real-time adaptive machine translation
• Translation Memory integration and real-time updates
• Context-aware translation for improved consistency
